Job Description

The role:

We are looking for an experienced Seamstress/Tailor to join our Tailoring Department for a minimum of 6 months to cover maternity leave. The Tailoring Assistant would be responsible for the manufacture of our range of formal ladies’ trousers. Using industrial sewing machines and equipment, the successful candidate will produce these high-quality garments with precision to a fine line finish and at a good pace.

The role is full time, based at our Wellingborough Support Centre with some flexibility for hybrid working or reduced hours depending on the right candidate and the needs of the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • To assemble a garments’ individual components as per the specification
  • To be confident and competent using Industrial Sewing Machines and Equipment
  • To be able to sew at a good pace and meet the required deadlines of production
  • To retain good communication with the Tailor throughout the production process

The ideal candidate:

  • Is able to work confidently, independently and as part of a team
  • Has the ability to manage their time and work to deadlines
  • Is able to demonstrate considerable skill in the construction of high-quality garments
  • Is reliable, flexible and have a positive attitude
  • Maintains high standards with excellent attention to detail

Desirable skills and qualifications:

  • Proven sewing/tailoring skills to a high standard
  • Relevant role specific qualifications
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work well under pressure when required
  • Sensitivity to the aims and ethos of The Salvation Army
